Composition: Consists of 95% used corrugated cardboard. The remaining 5% can be other papers and boards.OCC 95/5 vs. OCC 98/2: While both are high-quality OCC grades, the 98/2 grade is cleaner, with 98% corrugated and only 2% outthrows. This makes 98/2 more valuable.
OCC 95/5 vs. OCC Grade 11 (ISRI): ISRI Grade 11 also specifies limits for outthrows and prohibitives, and is a comparable grade used internationally
Composition: Consists of 95% used corrugated cardboard. The remaining 5% can be other papers and boards.
Outthrows: The total percentage of “outthrows” (unwanted materials) must not exceed 5%. Outthrows can include other paper and board materials, such as newsprint, magazines, or boxboard.
Prohibitive Materials: The percentage of “prohibitive materials” (those detrimental to the recycling process, such as plastic, wax, or metal) must not exceed 1%.
Contaminants: The cardboard should be clean and free from excess contaminants like oil, glass, or heavy metals. The material must not have been exposed to unacceptable contaminants.
Moisture Content: Moisture content is a critical factor, as excessively wet bales can incur a weight adjustment or be rejected. The naturally occurring moisture level should not exceed 12% by air-dried weight.
